Thanksgiving – a Meditation

Oh, Lord, today is Thanksgiving day.
We thank you for friends who are family,
And for family who are friends .

We thank you for food on our tables,
For the blessings in our lives
And the troubles which help us grow in you.

We pray that the mighty would learn to be humble,
And the humble might learn to be mighty,
And that we all may turn to You.

Lord, we know that we may not always understand
Or even like our neighbors, close by, or across the world.
But grant us the ability to love them as our family in You.

Thank You for everything.

Amen.

LOOK AROUND

LOOK AROUND

By Lorraine J. Anderson

Look around,
See the sun piercing columns through the clouds.
Look around,
See the color of the rainbow after a dark springtime rain.
Look around,
See the variety of the people around you.
Look around,
See the face of God.

Look up,
See the radiant moon bows in the winter sky.
Look up,
See the eagle soaring over the river.
Look up,
See your neighbor in need.
Look up,
See the face of God.

Look down,
See the Queen Anne’s Lace and the wild thistle.
Look down,
See the robin spying for big brown worms.
Look down,
See the little green frog hopping out of your way,
Look down,
See the face of God.

Look up,
Look down,
Look all around,
See the beauty of God.

The Lost Cross

The Lost Cross

By Lorraine J. Anderson

I owned a little cross
That to me was blessed.
It was just a piece of plastic
But it outshone the rest.

It was given to me by friends
At a retreat out in some fields.
Where love and laughter reigned
And hearts and souls were healed.

One day it came up missing
Nowhere could it be found.
I looked almost everywhere
In suitcases and bags all around.

I was upset and broken-hearted.
How could I lose this cross?
Then I realized that it wasn’t the plastic
I had something that could never be lost.

You see, the cross is just a symbol
Of Calvary’s hallowed grounds
And of our greatest Friend,
Who for our sins laid His life down.

I may never find that plastic cross.
But one thing that can never depart.
I will never ever lose the love
Of the cross that’s in my heart.
